1. Some pictures you take using a DSLR camera and an external flash may not respond on form to a direct or strong flash . In such cases you can use your camera’s menu to the "throttle down" settings to reduce the strength of you flash. If you don’t have this setting in your camera, try bouncing or diffusing the light from your flash.
2. you can use a flash diffuser which is basically a plastic box you attach around the flash unit head. it absorbs some of the flash’s light.
3. you can either buy a diffuser or make it yourself. A simple plastic cap that fits over the head of the flash unit would work.
4.You can bounce the flash light off a white or any light colored ceiling or wall
