Hey i like your logo alot, has a very exciting feel to it. My only concern is the amount of detail. Especially when you shrink it down, or if its ever requested to be in black and white. some it may start all blending together. Even if you omitted the snake and background and just left the typeface it would look good.
There is alot of gradient as well, may want to try and do a variation with flat color rule of thumb is 2-3 colors for a logo.
Good idea recreating the logo in illustrator. The first logo i ever did for a client was in photoshop several years back, problems arose when he needed the logo blown up to be put on a truck trailer! The pixalation was horrible and would not be accepted by the printing company! needless to say i had alot of explaining to do and i spent an entire night recreating it in illustrator. I had to learn the hard way!
Anyway Great Job!!!

Yeah it blends together alot and is really busy for a logo, if your going to go with that your going to want to add some contrast to the type. Play around with it and see what you come up with. try a yellow or orange its your call!
Good Luck!

Cool. Especially the reflections on the snake's eye and on the skin right next to the eye.
Keep it going like that!
