To apply a gradient mask using Adobe Fireworks Cs6 do the following:
1.Create any vector shape by selecting any shape.
2.From your Layers panel, select Add Mask .An empty mask will display
3. Click the Paint Bucket tool and hold it while your new mask is active.
4.Using the Gradient tool, make a gradient by clicking and dragging across the shape on the mask and make the transparent effect on your vector shape.
On the darker gradient is the vector shape would be less visible, and where the lighter gradient the vector is more visible.
