I was asked to design a logo for a prom (known as a 'debs' here in Ireland) site. They wanted something bold and yet simple in design. I gave them a number of options and this is what they chose;

But too simple. I would have some people dancing in prom clothing. The star is not really making it pretty. Why debs or what does that mean?

I would prefer something with more illustrative elements in it.

Personally I don't lke my designs to be too obvious. I thought that having people dancing, dressed up etc was the obvious route to go. I like my work to be different to the norm.

Debs is the term for prom. We don't call it a prom.

The text is fine but the start seems positioned a bit randomly in the space. I'm not sure on the darker stroke you've used too. As Chung said, something Illustrative would probably have more impact.

I don't think it's a bad logo, especially if it's for a prom. Personally my eye is aching to see that star in yellow. Have you tried that?

I'm not completely sure why, but it reminds me of the 80s -I think its the colors, blue and purple. Also I'm not too crazy about the font. I think the serif font makes it feel a bit too old and serious. Just my two cents.

Good luck :)

I kinda like it. My only problem is the spacing (star) & the tagline font.

The star itself is fine. You just need to modify it & make it look a little more unique.

It's simple, and it's bold. If thats what the client chose then that must have been just what they were looking for.

I agree that the close proximity of the star, the b and the a are creating some tension that doesn't seem to serve any discernible purpose (though for all I know there may be a reason for your choice there).

I am also wondering if a debs ball and a prom are a bit different in scene. I know in the US here, a prom is usually a pretty fancy affair for those that can afford it -limos, tuxedos, fancy dresses, etc. Which may be why some are questioning the austere simplicity of your design. It may be perfect for your uses though.
