When taking street photograph you should try to get a wide-angle lens and also a telephoto lens if possible. You should have a manual digital camera so you would be able to use additional lenses. Telephoto lenses are useful when taking pictures from your car, or if you are a long way from your subject.
Focus your camera before taking pictures. Start shooting without look through the viewfinder or looking into the LCD screen. The best way to do this is using a wide-angle lens, for excellent depth of field. Look for the public spaces that are critical for the eyes. Keep in mind that there are photographic opportunities all around you, you just need to capture them. You should be aware all times of what is happening on around you.
