In Adobe Illustrator, the fonts are read from Windows Fonts folder. Therefore to install new fonts in Illustrator, you need to copy the font’s file to Window’s Fonts folder. You can install the font by either opening the font’s file or by placing it in the Fonts folder.

o Go to Start and then Control Panel.
o Go to Appearance and Personalization, and then click on Fonts.
o Drag the font and then in the Fonts window.
oClose your Adobe Illustrator and re-open it.

In Adobe Illustrator, the fonts are read not only from Windows Fonts folder. All CS products are feeding in Adobe's Font Folder.
Another way:
1. Open C:\Programm Files\CommonFiles\Adobe\Fonts
2. Drag&drop your *.otf or *.ttf in it.
3. PROFIT! immediately without restarting Ai or other CS products.
