So this recently crossed my mind. what if you submit your work to a contest where its not guarantee. then the contest holder doesn't choose a winner, but use your logo design without paying you and without your permission? Has this every happened? How are designers protected?

You (the designer) enter non-guaranteed contests at your own risk. It would be up to you to deal with the contest holder about using a design entered in a non guaranteed contest, DC just hosts this type of contest.

"Guaranteed/non-guaranteed :

Contests posted as Guaranteed have been prepaid to DC, and payment to the winning designer will be handled through DesignContest.net. Non-guaranteed contests have not been prepaid, and payment will be handled between the designer and the contest holder once a winner has been chosen. While DC makes every attempt to only host contests for reputable CH’s, we urge our designers to approach non-guaranteed contests using their own discretion, and we waive any responsibility regarding the prize payment to winners of such contests."

DesignCOntest tries to encourage the contest holder to guarantee contests but in the end it is up to the contest holder to choose, it is then up to you the designer to enter or not enter the contest. Id a contest holder sees no one entering non guaranteed contests then there would most likely be none of those contests.

I think it is safer for designers NOT to enter these, they have no guarantee, and are too risky. Just curious, why does DC allow non guaranteed contest?

whittym, I made the mistake of entering 2 nonguaranteed contest, both, the contest holder is missing, no feedback, nada....I have learned a lesson, don't enter these....BUT if I do find that my design was used, without my consent, prize, I will take legal action against that contest holder.

I see that happening on the lower class design spec sites. Designers saying their stuff was stolen...
This is a much classier site... I won't be too afraid...
But hey if you are just don't submit your work...
Do something else...!

on any site, especially when admin say' with an no guaranteed contest you're on your own'.....ANY design can be copied, and most sites now, do not offer non guaranteed , as the benefit is NONE Doesn't matter the site, DC basically has spelled it out, we are unprotected when entering non guaranteed contest...why enter? we risk so much:eek:

and MY work has been copied, from a site where I sell logos, and let me say, how irritating:(

You dont need to participate in non-guaranteed contests to see your work being stolen. You just need to have a portfolio online, for example. Internet is a big world, anything can happen.

sadly even if CH using your design, Do you still want to bring it into law court? i mean it's just for $250 dollar. You must hire a lawyer, maybe cost twice or more than the prize.
