I was wondering what clipart exactly means, do graphics in Illustrator count too, or pictures that were bought. How do distinguish clipart? How do you know if someone is using "stolen goods"?

Basically, anything you didn't make yourself is clipart :) I think that pretty much covers it from my understanding.

Welcome to DC!
You MUST be an Elite Designer to enter the contests. Please go to www.designcontest.net and follow the link that says "Love to Design" to get more information and the requirements for joining. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.

Trust me, the hundreds of designers who frequent DesignContest.net have very sharp eyes. And I guarantee that any stolen image will be laid bare very quickly. And the thief will be banished from the community forever. Internet is much smaller than you think. ;)

And I should also note that in some cases legal measures may be applied. So the bottom line is: I wouldn't do that.

I mean, pictures that are paid for, are ok, I know this, who here can judge this though? If someone wanted a picture of jupiter, how would you go about getting/making this picture?

Is there a difference between using pictures for money or not?
Sorry for my questions, I'm just a student, but I am learning a ton here on your site, so THANK YOU!! Glad I stopped in!

I think you need to be more specific. Because of course if you have bought an image and the license says that you can use it in your own designs, of course you can use it. But if you are speaking about logo contests on DC, you cannot use any third party images.

It often depends on specific cases. You may want to read the license of the stock image provider. Here's one from istockphoto, just for example.

Yea anyone that tries to plagiarize other designers works will definitely be caught. As resurepus said the internet is smaller than we think.

No in my case I use some images or partial part of image to create vector illustrations. I put some important amount of work to obtain the result I am looking for. Is thta count as a clip art?

Basically, if you had to save or copy any image from the Internet, a CD, etc onto your hard drive or into a drawing application and if you used that image in your design, then you are using clip-art. It was ready to use independantly of your design, and that's what makes it clip-art.
