1. Use a good editor with auto-complete functionality and Syntax highlighting to maximize productivity. Notepad++, Coda, and Dreamweaver CS are all very good editors.
2. Whenever possible enable Gzip compression server-side; this shrinks the size of your files.
3. Caching conserves bandwidth for visitors resulting in faster speeds. So cache whenever possible.
4. Try using whitespace to format your CSS stylesheet. This adds bytes to the file size, but increases readability.
5. Avoid using inline code. Instead put the code in your external stylesheets.
